10 Things Eric Cantona Wants You To Forget

10. He Was Turned Down By Sheffield Wednesday

This would have made the goal he scored above against The Owls all the more sweeter. Many football fans associate Eric Cantona with Manchester United or possibly Leeds United. Thing is, Cantona€™s career in England could have been oh so different. After having seemingly burned all of his bridges in France, Cantona€™s attention turned towards the British Isles. Before he was signed by Leeds in 1992, he actually had a trial at Sheffield Wednesday. Unfortunately for Eric, and likely even more unfortunately for Owls fans, then-Wednesday manager Trevor Francis decided against signing Cantona. Eric would soon end up signing for Yorkshire rivals Leeds Utd and plying his trade at Elland Road as he helped them to win the old First Division. Good call, Trev.
