10 Things Everton Fans Need To Know About Oumar Niasse

5. Everton Haven€™t Signed Him As Back-Up For Romelu Lukaku

While it€™s true that Everton could really use some cover for their 19-goal Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, Blues boss Roberto Martinez has made it clear that Niasse was not signed as back-up for their top scorer, or anyone else for that matter. Niasse is a versatile player, who can feature as a target man, a second striker beside Lukaku, or on the wing. In other words, there€™s room for both strikers in Everton's XI. €œHe€™s not back-up for anyone. He has his own ability, his own conditions and he is someone who can stretch defenders. He can cope with the physical nature of the Premier League but his last game in the Russian league was 10th December and he€™s been on a mid-season break so we need to get him back to fitness as fast as we can,€ The Guardian quotes Martinez as saying. €œHe can open space and has a real intelligent way of combining for others. He can fit in different formations €“ on his own, with another, out wide. He€™s flexible and at 25 it€™s the perfect moment for coming to the Premier League.€
