9. He Used To Play For Chelsea
Jon Super/AP/Press Association ImagesWell, sort of. Shaw was born in Kingston upon Thames London, in 1995 and grew up as a Chelsea supporter, and last year revealed he came close to playing alongside the likes of Frank Lampard. As a youth Shaw played at Chelsea's development centre in Guildford, and tried out for their academy, though the youngster was rejected.
He explained:
Between the ages of ten and 14 I went along to Stamford Bridge quite a lot either with my dad or a mate. My hero was Didier Drogba but Cole was the kind of player I aspired to be. I rated him the best left back in the world and if I had gone to Chelsea all those years ago, I still would have been kicking me heels waiting for a chance to play."
It is understood Chelsea's decision to reject Shaw was based on the notion that
he was too small and instead he ended up at Southampton. Other clubs to have rejected Shaw as a youth
were Arsenal and Fulham. Their loss is United's gain.
