8. He Is The Youngest Player To Feature At The 2014 World Cup
Nick Potts/PA Wire/Press Association ImagesThere wasn't much to sing or dance about for England fans at this summer's World Cup as Roy Hodgson's side crashed out of the group stages with just a measly one point. Defeats to Italy and Uruguay put paid to any hopes the Three Lions may have had of succeeding in Brazil and the country ended up finishing rock bottom of Group D. However, if there was one shining ray of optimism it was Luke Shaw, who was selected in Hodgson's 23-man squad ahead of veteran Ashley Cole and became the youngest player to feature at this summer's finals. Shaw will turn 19 on the day of the World Cup final and his 90 minute appearance against Costa Rica in England's final group game made him the youngest player to feature in the competition in Brazil. Just a day later he was disappointingly on the plane home to England but with Cole now retired from international football, the expectation is that Shaw will go on to play on the left-flank for the next decade.
