6. He Forced Through His Move To United
Martin Meissner/AP/Press Association ImagesThe transfer window can typically be a difficult period for clubs. First, an interested party has to agree a fee for one of their rival's players, then negotiate personal terms with the player himself. But where Shaw is concerned, it was all relatively straight forward - he always wanted to play for Manchester United. So much so, he told Southampton on the final day of last season
that he wanted to leave. Shaw's final game for the Saints was against the Red Devils and he saw enough then to make up his mind that he wanted to play in the red of United rather than that of Southampton next season. United's lack of Champions League football next season might have made it difficult for the club to attract new players this summer so it is refreshing that a player of Shaw's calibre made the decision to forgo European football for the honour to ply his trade at Old Trafford rather than at Chelsea,
who were also interested.
