10 Things Man Utd Need To Learn From City & Liverpool

10. How To Grind Out Results

Manchester United used to be good at grinding out results. Turning 0-0 draws into 1-0 wins with a last minute goal has been part of the club's fabric over the past decade, but somewhere along the way United have forgotten how to wring maximum points out of games. Last season, for example, the Red Devils were leading 2-1 against lowly Fulham until Darren Bent popped up with a 90th minute equaliser to stun Old Trafford, while Southampton similarly denied United three points when Adam Lallana struck an 89th minute leveller in a 1-1 draw last October. By contrast, United's neighbours in the blue half of Manchester were seemingly able to scrape by even when their performances weren't up to scratch. Rescuing valuable points with late goals against teams such as Stoke and Crystal Palace was one of the reasons why the Citizens won the Premier League title last season. Though City spent just 11 days at the top of the table during the whole season, their ability to get maximum points returns from games saw them through. This is something the Red Devils need to relearn under Louis van Gaal.
