10 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Aymen Abdennour
10. He Is A Dominant Centre Back
Let's start with what type of player United could have on their hands.... There's taking no prisoners and then there's what this man does on a football pitch. I'm hesitant in saying this but there are definite comparisons between Aymen Abdennour and Nemanja Vidic... Not to heap a load of pressure on the lad from the get-go, but the pairs' playing style is very similar. Aymen is a physical as they come and certainly makes his presence felt on his striking opponent. He's the sort of 'dominator' centre back that wouldn't be phased by the rough and tumble nature of the Barclays Premier League. He also is the type of character that certainly has the confidence to take the pressures of the league in his stride and show what he can do. The potential tussle between he and Chelsea's Diego Costa is simply mouth watering... It's the sort of challenge that he would love. Don't be fooled - the 26-year-old isn't all brawn and no football brains - he is in fact a very intelligent footballer and composed with the ball at his feet. He has the perfect combination of strength and skill going for him which should see him flourish in the big time. He would compliment Chancel Mbemba, or Fabricio Coloccini, perfectly. While the current Mags' defenders are 'smaller' centre backs with plenty of ability on the ball - Abdennour stands at 6 ft 2 in and his built like the proverbial brick... you know what I'm getting at. He is also left footed which would see him slot nicely into the left hand side of United's central pairing. While Colo's form has been less than impressive since the start of the season, the potential pairing of Aymen and Chancel looks like it could be the perfect one one paper. Let's hope Steve McClaren, should the club sign the Monaco man of course, give it a go instead of abiding to the notion that the club captain's position in the team is untouchable. All in all, he's exactly what Newcastle United need judging by how the goals from their first two games have flown into their net.
