10 Things Sepp Blatter Wants You To Forget

2. He Isn’t Even Loved In His Hometown

It’s usually the case for local inhabitants of a town to display unwavering support for any local figure that has achieved a sense of notoriety. Even laying claim to a serial killer tends to bring with it a twisted sense of pride. Yet the people of Visp, a small town near the Swiss Alps, share zero pride in producing the most powerful man in football.

The above video shows the reaction as Sepp Blatter attempts to give a speech in Visp, only to be booed mercilessly by fans of local team Sion, whose fans were still enraged at UEFA Financial Fair Play punishments. The hecklers are hard to ignore. Blatter’s response after the event was to label the dissenters as ‘unworthy’, and ‘lacking education’.

But this isn’t the only time Sepp has been publicly booed. He was heckled at the World Cup in Seoul back in 2006, and then in Frankfurt at the Confederations Cup. He was also booed at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. And then again at the 2012 London Olympics. In 2014 he didn’t give a speech at the World Cup opening ceremony, lest he be booed once again. So they booed him at the trophy presentation instead.
