6. McClaren Looks Likely To "Do An Allardyce" At St James' This Season
Not in the sense that he will be booted not long after the turn of the year - hopefully, anyway - but because he is likely to take a seat up in the directors' box, a la Allardyce, for the first-half of games at least. Steve McClaren emerged at St James' Park on Saturday to little fanfare. He just walked to his dugout, signed a few autographs, then headed with Steve Black to sit in the directors' box, just as Sam Allardyce did during his stint on Tyneside. By the 40th minute McClaren was down on the touchline barking out instructions due to the fact his side were struggling to find any rhythm whatsoever, but it looks like the ex-England boss intends to at least begin games in the stands. Let's hope that he doesn't find himself descending the stairs from the directors' box to the dugout in order to try to rectify a hopeless situation like Allardyce did when the Magpies were 3-0 down to Portsmouth inside 15 minutes all those years ago...
