10 Things We Learned From Newcastle 0-1 Mönchengladbach

5. There Is Far More Of A High Press From McClaren/Cathro's Newcastle

As well as the obvious shift at attempting to keep the ball and pass it out from defence that Steve McClaren and his deputy Ian Cathro have instilled into this Magpies side, the most noticeable alteration of all was the attempt to enforce a high press. Newcastle under Alan Pardew and then John Carver were so often lackadaisical when the opposition were in possession and simply did not pressurise them enough into making mistakes, but that does not look like being the case going forward. The front four of Papiss Cisse, Gabriel Obertan, Georginio Wijnaldum and Moussa Sissoko against Borussia were actively looking to push forward at every opportunity to hurry and harry the opposition, and that can only be a positive thing.
