11 Things We Learned From Swansea Vs Newcastle

2. Gabriel Obertan Could Well Be United's Most Effective Attacking Outlet This Season

No. Really. From an attacking perspective Gabriel Obertan was the only Newcastle United player to turn up at Swansea. The ball bounced off Papiss Cisse more times than it's worth mentioning, while Georginio Wijnaldum was bossed out of the game by the Swansea midfield. On top of that, Moussa Sissoko did nothing of note before he was hauled off which is making Steve McClaren's plans to build his new-look Newcastle round him all the more bewildering. Moussa doesn't look like this right wing-cum free role is going to work for him, and would probably suit being employed in the centre - but then that brings about the debate of who you are going to drop out of Colback and Anita in a debate that needs to be had another time... Obertan was once again played on the left and hauled The Magpies forward at times when others were seemingly reluctant to. He did more than the rest of United's attacking players did put together... The winger was trusted with the ball and was confident enough to carry it forward and take on a couple of long range shots. And even though United didn't profit from them, it was encouraging to see and shows how much he has improved over the last 12 months.
