10 Things You May Not Have Known About The Kansas City Royals

3. The Royals Are Very Media-Friendly, Both To Local And Visiting Writers

As noted earlier, while visiting Kansas City on assignment, I had the pleasure of taking a private tour of Kauffman Stadium. I was treated very well - even though it was quickly figured out that I was a fan of the New York Mets - by all Royals staff members encountered. This included broadcaster Steve Physioc, who let me interview him about 30 minutes before the ceremonial first pitch.

But proper sports journalists are able to watch the game from the Joe McGuff Press Box. While meals are not free there for the writers in attendance, they are discounted. You simply seat yourself and have a breathtaking view of the game.

Of note about the Joe McGuff Press Box, however, is that there is a phone there that is connected to the dugout. In other words, pitching changes are called in straight to the media, so that spectators on assignment have official word of who is coming in and out of the game. In turn, the media may be the first people not on the field to know who is pitching for the Royals.
