2. He Could Have Signed For Blackburn
The story of Zidane's famous non-signing for Blackburn Rovers has gone down in Premier League history, a trademark example of the often insular nature of the decision makers at the biggest clubs. The story goes that, fresh from an unexpected title win in the 1994/95 season, Kenny Dalglish wanted to add some continental culture to his side's midfield and forward line, and asked the club's Chairman and owner, Jack Warner, to make a move for the French duo Zidane and Christophe Dugarry, both of whom were turning out for Bordeaux. Warner's response, the words that we can only presume haunted him for years afterwards,
were: "why do you want to sign Zidane when we have Tim Sherwood?". Well, quite. Zidane stayed at Bordeaux, while Blackburn and Tim Sherwood did not win another Premier League title.
