10 Transfers Where Newcastle Dodged A Bullet

6. Laryea Kingston

Who? It€™s a good question, considering he has spent much of his career playing in the Middle East. A real journeyman, with 14 past employers to his name, the former Ghanaian international has turned out for some bizarre outfits such as Great Olympics, Hearts of Oak, Krylia Sovetov Samara and Terek Grozny. With a CV that reads like a €˜who€™s who?€™ of teams who not even FIFA 15 know exist, it seems crazy that the man wouldn€™t add a Premier League club to his collection. Kingston was a 26 year old Ghanaian international at Scottish side Hearts - finally a club that our ears might have heard of before - and had impressed at Tynecastle following his £500,000 move from Terek Grozny. With Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder looking to revamp his squad, he targeted the combative midfielder to add some much-needed steel to his midfield, but surprisingly, the former Al-Ittihad Tripoli midfielder preferred to stay in Scotland.
''I feel very happy because I love Hearts and the fans love me. My family is happy here - so this is the best place for me to stay. I had one or two options from the English Premiership - Newcastle and Bolton.۪۪ - Laryea Kingston, June 2007.
Kingston€™s love affair with Hearts would last three seasons before being released. He subsequently linked up with Dutch side Vitesse in December 2010, before being dropped like a hot stone after six months. He has since enjoyed stints back in Israel, Ghana, America and Malaysia. The man has had a career resembling more that of a tourist agent than a professional footballer - the right standard for Newcastle United? It€™s the equivalent of applying for the position of bank manager with just a history of painting fences on the CV.
