10 UFC Fighters Who Failed To Live Up To Expectations

9. Todd Duffee

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7f8yZmIx9_o The reason for Duffee's inclusion in this list is twofold: a shock, come-from-behind KO loss and the American's attitude. The hype surrounding Duffee was ginormous - coming into the UFC with a 5-0 record and a body of a baddie on a video game, Todd looked like the real deal. His first outing came against tough veteran Tim Hague which ended in just 7 seconds. That wasn't a typo, just seven seconds which unsurprisingly tied the UFC record for fastest KO. After the Hague win the MMA underground was going insane with post after post about how bright Duffee's future was. Many expected good things, a fight against Brock Lesnar in a battle of massive heavyweights, a hayemaker fest with Shane Carwin or maybe a new vs. old scrap against Randy Couture. However these suggestions proved to be premature when Duffee faced Chicago native Mike Russow. After 2 rounds of TD looking unbelievably comfortable, using Russow as a mere punching bag, horror struck. In one of the most surprising moments in UFC history, Russow caught Duffee with a left hand and followed up with a right which dropped the massive prospect. The man who seemed immortal was brought back down to earth. This gif explains it all. Despite what may seem like disaster, the worst was yet to come. After being forced out of a fight with Jon Madsen, it was announced that Duffee had been cut from the UFC due to numerous disputes regarding fighter pay amid a knee surgery which TD was forced to have. UFC president Dana White explained,
"He doesn't want to be in the UFC, he doesn't like being in the UFC"
Duffee's next venture came against former K-1 champion, Dutchman Alistair Overeem and lasted merely 19 seconds, ending in a KO defeat for the American. TD's hype train was well and truly derailed. Despite this, Todd Duffee has since gone on to pick up two victories in a combined total of 2:38 - one of which was in India, the other was his return to the UFC. After racking up Knockout of the Night honours in his return, Duffee's future may not be so bleak afterall. But, for now, the shock KO and his cut from the UFC results in his expectations not being met.
