Another season, another Champions League qualification place finish for Arsenal.

For all Arsene Wenger is criticised for repeatedly finishing fourth and failing to challenge for the title, attaining a Champions League spot is extremely difficult and can’t be done without excellent defenders.

Players like Per Mertesacker, Francis Coquelin and Hector Bellerin have stepped forward this season, but it’s Laurent Koscielny who’s been their unsung star. Calm in dangerous situations, Koscielny has long provided a soothing presence at the back. He’s not afraid of getting stuck in either, but it’s his reading of the game that’s so impressive.

Given how many years he’s held the Arsenal back line together, he’s surely their unsung warrior.
