Colback has been one of the few Newcastle players to emerge with any credit from their disastrous campaign.

Despite playing for Sunderland for several years and even scoring against Newcastle, Colback’s determination, professionalism and tackling ability quickly won the crowd over.

The England man has picked up plenty of yellow cards along the way, and may have been a tad fortuitous not to see red once or twice, however, that’s part and parcel of being an industrious midfielder.

Considering that Colback ranks third in the distance covered table, you can forgive him for mistiming a tackle or two.

Not many would’ve predicted that a free signing from Sunderland would turn out to be the signing of the season ahead of the likes of Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Rivière.
