10 Worst Back To Back NBA Draft Picks Of The Last 10 Years
1. Johnny Flynn Before Steph Curry
It seemed that Golden State Warriors' backcourt of the future was set, as they already had the duo of combo-guards in Jamal Crawford and Monta Ellis. That was until they realized that Steph Curry was still on the board when they were supposed to pick seventh in the 2009 draft. Curry has turned Davidson Wildcats from a mid-major college basketball team to one of the best in the nation. The Warriors traded away Crawford and allowed Curry to take the reigns of their rebuilding franchise. This ended fairly well for them.
However, the Minnesota Timberwolves were picking before the Warriors. And with new president of basketball operations, David Kahn, they were set to rebuiltd after a disappointing season. With Kevin Love and Al Jefferson the frountcourt looked rather established. Since the Timberwolves had their original sixth pick and acquired the fifth choice from Washington before the draft, it seemed rather obvious that the executive would decide on a duo of guards that could learn how to play with one another and eventually develop enough chemistry to lift the Wolves out of obscurity, right?
Well, Kahn preferred to think outside the box. He picked Ricky Rubio first, calling dibs on the talented Spaniard, who wasn't too convinced about joining the NBA yet. That's why with his next pick Kahn selected Johnny Flynn, who spent two years at Syracuse and was a solid player for the college team. After two disappointing years Flynn was traded to the Rockets on draft night.
