10 Worst Decisions Alan Pardew Has Made As Newcastle Boss

6. Prematurely Declaring Our Safety

Pardew rashly voiced his confidence that Newcastle were safe from relegation following a 2-1 victory over Stoke at St James' Park that took us five places and nine points above the Premier League drop-zone. "I think we're done now. We need seven more points to reach 40 but this team will get them," he declared afterwards with that true to form air of smug self-assurance. The moral of the story for Pardew was to never presume the outcome of an event which is still in progress. Two wins and a pair of draws from our remaining nine games meant we finished 16th in the table and survived by the skin of our teeth with our top-flight position only secured on the penultimate day of the season when we scraped a 2-1 win at already-relegated QPR. As the old expression goes; don't count your chickens before they hatch.
