10 Worst Ever Premier League Refereeing Mistakes

5. Nani's Mysterious Goal vs Spurs, 2010

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKgQg3efkQo Nani scored one of the most bizarre goals of the Premier League era against Tottenham Hotspur in 2010, though it should never have stood. Surprise surprise, Mark Clatenburg was at it again here as he failed to notice a clear handball from Nani after he went down claiming a penalty in the Spurs box. Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes rolled the ball out for a free-kick after mistakenly thinking Clattenburg had given his side a freekick for the infringement, only for a baffled Nani to look over his shoulder, spot that the referee hadn't blown for a foul, before cheekily rolling the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0 to United. Naturally, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp furiously claimed Nani should have been booked for handball and Spurs awarded a free-kick in the build-up to the dubious goal, and labelled the outcome "scandalous". The ball did clearly hit Nani's hand and he was right that Clattenburg should have blown for a free-kick. Instead, with the ball still in play, the Portugal international was allowed to score one of the most scandalous goals of the Premier League era.
