This was a very confusing decision that was actually shrouded with distraction as Celtic fans saw some of the busiest transfer periods of the clubs history. Tony Mowbray was half way through his stint as Celtic manager, and at 10 points behind leaders Rangers, he had to sign players in the winter transfer window. This was an exciting period for Celtic fans as they saw stars such as Robbie Keane as well as a few other names come in on loan. Of course, to make way for the increased financial pressure put on the club, they also needed to sell. But why McDonald? He had scored a total of 65 goals for Celtic, in 2 and-a-half seasons - an impressive tally. Yes, they had just signed Keane who was more than capable of matching McDonalds striking prowess, but he was only in on loan. McDonald had really established himself at Celtic, scoring some very important goals in Europe and consistently performing in the league, so it surely would have been easier to hold on to him and tell Kamara, who turned out to be a huge flop, not to bother? This was a desperate, short term attempted solution that totally backfired as Celtic were still not able to catch up to Rangers by the end of the season. They brought in a goal machine, yes, but Keane evidently needed time to settle into the team which resulted in his promised goals coming too late. McDonald was already performing consistently, and should have stayed.
As a recent university graduate and a huge supporter of Celtic FC, what better way to use my inevitable free time to write about my favourite football team? I'll cover most things that the supporters are talking about at the moment, which includes things that directly and indirectly involve the club. At times I may also stray into matters concerning English clubs.
