He was asked if he could see immediately after being poked in the eye and when he told the ref he couldnt, the fight was stopped. No one can see immediately after an eye poke. He should have been given the appropriate amount of time to recover and his condition should have been properly assessed. If Villante had been allowed to recover from the eye poke, he could have possibly gone on to win the fight. That was not the case. The fight prematurely stopped by the referee Kevin Mulhall, who waived off the fight without calling for the doctor. Villante would lose on the scorecards for the fight with 4:27 remaining in the final round.
