10 Worst World Cup Teams Ever
4. Haiti (1974)
Haiti made their first, and for the time being, last World Cup appearance in 1974, and did at least give their fans a couple of things to shout about by scoring two goals in the group stage. Unfortunately, they also conceded a whopping 14 times in just three games.
They actually got quite lucky in qualifying as all of the CONCACAF qualification games were played on home ground in Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince. Their luck turned sour when they were drawn in a World Cup "Group of Death" alongside Italy, Argentina, and Poland. The first game actually started well, with the Haitians going into a 1-0 lead courtesy of Emmanuel Sanon, who scored against legendary keeper Dino Zoff, but the Italians burst back into the game and won 3-1.
The Haiti team then got absolutely thrashed by Poland, who scored five goals within just the first half hour and extended their lead later on to a final score of 7-0. Argentina then sent Haiti home without a single point in a 4-1 game that saw Sanon score once again. At least Haiti scored a couple of goals, but conceding 14 times in three games is one of the worst ever World Cup performances.
