10 Young Players Who Could Help England Win World Cup 2022

4. Mason Mount

Another young English player who spent last season abroad in search of first team football, 19-year-old Mason Mount has drawn comparisons with Frank Lampard for his style of play and is even being linked with a move to Derby to work under the former Chelsea legend next season.

Mount spent last season with Vitesse, on loan from Chelsea, scoring 14 goals and making 10 more in 39 appearances. It was a fantastic season for the youngster, capped off perfectly as he was awarded the Player of the Year award for the club.

Mount was involved with England's U19 European Championship win last year as well, catching the eye with several breathtaking performances and even setting up the winning goal in the final. Again, he was rewarded for his individual brilliance with the Golden Player award.

Southgate is said to be an admirer of Mount's talents and even invited the 19-year-old to train with the senior squad before the World Cup got underway. It might be another couple of years before we see him pulling on an England shirt, but if he can keep playing the way he's started, he could become a vital part of the Three Lions' future midfield.
