A versatile young midfielder, 19-year-old Federico 'Fede' Valverde spent last season on loan from Real Madrid at Deportivo, who actually ended up getting relegated. The young Uruguayan played two dozen games for the Spanish club, often coming on off the bench and being asked to play in various roles and positions around the midfield.

He ended the season with no goals or assists but still demonstrated some impressive skills which have earned him a call-up to Uruguay's squad for the World Cup. He's already made four appearances for the national side so far, scoring one goal during qualification against Paraguay.

A creative player with a good eye for a long pass, Valverde is a smart and capable midfielder, controlling the tempo of games with good hold-up play whilst trying to create opportunities for his teammates whenever he can. He's still a little rough around the edges, but has plenty of potential to develop into a great player.
