2. ST: Callum Wilson (Bournemouth) £6.5m
In August of last year, Callum Wilson must have thought he was on top of the world. Having netted 20 goals as Bournemouth were promoted to the big time, he netted a quick-fire five goals for the club in the opening month including a hat-trick against West Ham. There were even whispers of an England call-up for the 23-year-old ahead of the following summer’s Euros.
And then disaster struck - a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament dictated that his season was as good as over, and that his goal tally would be stuck at five.
The former Tamworth man will feel as though he has unfinished business in the Premier League this season, having been chomping at the bit on the sidelines for most of last season. His impact in that thrilling early-season encounter at Upton Park was such that injury didn’t deter them from tabling a bid for his services this summer, only for Wilson to commit himself to the club.
At the moment, Wilson is a bit of a forgotten man having been out of action for so long. However, Eddie Howe knows just what a boost it is to have a man of his ability back in the fold and raring to go - expect 10-12 goals at least.
