Southampton could do with another striker. Shane Long, Charlie Austin and the one-legged Jay Rodriguez are the only ones left on their books after the shock departure of Graziano Pelle this summer.

The Saints shouldn’t be too worried however - not least because they seem to lose half their team every summer anyway, and still manage to find a way to survive. Last season was the best campaign of Long’s career to date - finding the back of the net 13 times and 10 in the Premier League.

Flourishing when given the opportunity to lead the line for the Saints, the bullish centre-forward terrorised defences - not least Arsenal’s - and proved a real handful as the season wore on. He will hope that this season will prove more of the same, and will be looking for an increased share of responsibility with Southampton’s go-to centre-forward having traded in the south-coast for the south-east.
