11 Players Who Stole A Living From Celtic

11. Adam Virgo

Signed From: Brighton & Hove Albion Fee: £1.5 million Having won the Championship Player Of The Year immediately before becoming Gordon Strachan's first signing for Celtic, big things were expected of Adam Virgo. He had been a key figure for Brighton, and as such his £1.5m transfer fee looked a smart bit of business for the Bhoys. Sadly, injuries and a bizarre set of circumstances completely ruined the player's chance of making an impact at the club. The signs weren't good immediately as injury meant he missed the start of his debut season, and after he eventually made his debut (good though not exceptional) he pretty much just faded into obscurity. He was so underused that the next season he was sent out on loan, to first Coventry and then Colchester, before the club just gave up and effectively threw their £1.5m down the toilet by releasing him in 2008. He had made just four starts in 3 years.

Virgo later came out to claim that his failure had not been as simple as it seemed; he was promised a first-term starting position, but was dropped despite being named Man Of The Match on his debut. And then. when the opportunity came up to cover Bobo Balde in the Scottish Cup, Virgo was snubbed in favour of playing Du Wei, the Chinese defender, because of lucrative opportunities with TV in Asia.

The club claim that isn't true and it could merely be sour grapes from an at times unfairly snubbed player.
