11 Players Who Stole A Living From Manchester United
2. Massimo Taibi
If you're talking about calamity goalkeepers, Massimo Taibi has to be a part of the conversation. His Old Trafford reign will be remembered for perhaps the worst goalkeeping moment in Premier League history, but perhaps his errors came as a result of the pressure he felt to replace the great Peter Schmeichel, who left United after their famous Champions League win in 1999. Taibi was signed for £4.5 million and was one of the first men to attempt to fill the boots of the great Dane. Having made a mistake against Liverpool on his debut, he still managed to pull off a man of the match performance, but his not so finest moment was to follow a few weeks later. Taibi infamously let a shot from Matt Le Tissier trickle through his legs and over the line to the shock and despair of the watching Old Trafford crowd, letting Southampton back into the game in a match that ended 3-3. The Italian was also in goal during United's 5-0 thumping by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, so he was sent back to Italy just a few months later... where he actually made a decent career for himself. He even scored in Serie A!
