Ranking Sunderland's Signings Of 2014/15 From Worst To Best
9. Will Buckley - £2,500,000 From Brighton
After signing Liam Bridcutt from ex-club Brighton the previous season, Poyet again raided his old employers in the summer of 2014, this time bringing pacy winger Will Buckley into the fold. Like Bridcutt, he enjoyed a mightily impressive debut, terrorising Manchester United up and down the right wing at will. This proved to be a false dawn, and he was outed as every inch the Championship player fans feared he'd be. Buckley failed to score a single goal, but the absence of a killer instinct wasn't Sunderland fans' main gripe. Instead, it was Buckley's infuriating tendency to lose the ball with startling ease. Instead of keeping things simple and beating full backs with his blistering pace, he would forever find himself cutting inside and misplacing a simple pass. Other times he'd simply go missing. Things weren't all bad for Buckley in 2014/15 however. That debut against United was deceptively fantastic, and he provided a crucial assist for Adam Johnson's 90th minute winner at St. James' Park in December.
