Ranking Sunderland's Signings Of 2014/15 From Worst To Best
5. Billy Jones - Free Transfer From West Brom
Halfway through the season, it seemed as though Billy Jones' signing would be a disaster of Alvarez-esque proportions. Dropped after a series of shaky performances from right back, his poor form and trouble with injuries actually led to the emergency signing of Reveillere. The Frenchman's impressive displays made it doubtful that Jones would play any major role for the rest of the season. Under Advocaat, however, the 28 year old returned to the first team and improved immensely. Strong, direct, and entirely committed to the cause, his tireless patrolling of the right flank opened up options on the overlap without leaving the backline too often exposed. Perhaps lacking the praise he deserves for his substantial contribution to the Black Cats' annual relegation escape, Jones finds himself on the cusp of a crucial second season. Fans will be hoping he doesn't lose his good form over the summer break.
