12 Champions League Winners Who Played For Newcastle

4. Patrick Kluivert

Played For NUFC: 2004 - 2005. Appearances: 37, Goals: 12 Won Champions League: 1995, AC Milan Kluivert was way past his best when he dropped anchor in Newcastle after being persuaded by Sir Bobby Robson to swap the Nou Camp for St James' Park in the summer of 2004 after his contract had expired at Barcelona. It didn't quite work out and the Holland international was on his way back to Spain despite a haul of 13 goals in his single season on Tyneside. A decade earlier, however, a fresh-faced 18-year-old Kluivert - part of the Golden Generation of the 90's - was a Champions League match winner for Ajax in the 1995 final against AC Milan. Coming off the bench late in the second half it took just quarter of an hour for the striker to cement his reputation as one of the brightest talents in Europe with a classy finish five minutes from time. Remarkably, he was unable to repeat his success in the competition with either Milan, whom he joined two years later, or Barca after that.
