12 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Patrick Vieira's Managerial Career

12. Vieira Has Been Manchester City's Elite Development Squad Manager For Two Seasons... But He Has No First-Team Coaching Experience

Fittingly Patrick Vieira finished his playing career by coming off the bench at Wembley to claim yet another trophy - as he lifted the FA Cup with Manchester City back in May 2011. Upon retiring he was immediately offered a role with the Citizens - being given the title of "Football Development Executive". It was in May 2013 that he was then appointed as the club's new reserve team and Elite Development squad manager though - a role he has occupied for the last two seasons, with mixed success. Although the Man City youth squad have continued to develop under Vieira, they have been knocked out of the UEFA Youth League at the quarter-final stages for two years in a row. Also, Vieira has yet to manage a single first-team game - so there would be an element of risk in appointing him at Newcastle.
