While Bayern Munich were tearing up Europe and shocking everyone, Wigan Athletic had a few surprises up their sleeves as well when they won the FA Cup on May 11. What made their win all the more historic was the fact their opponents were Manchester City, a side widely expected to make light work of the Latics. However, Ben Watson's last-minute goal made a mockery of those expectations as Wigan claimed the first major trophy in their 81-year history and consigned City to a trophy-less season, which ultimately cost Roberto Mancini his job. Mancini was sacked off the back of this embarrassing defeat, and was replaced by Manuel Pellegrini in June. Wigan were relegated from the Premier League three days after this win.
