15 Most Shockingly Underpaid Footballers

12. Thomas Muller

Wage: £85,000

On the face of it, an £85,000 p/wk contract would certainly be in the higher tier of sought-after contracts. If the average footballer was offered that in the morning, they would snap the pen in two with sheer excitement. As we all know, however, Thomas Mueller is no average footballer. The German forward is only 25, but what he has achieved in his seven seasons of professional football is nothing short of incredible. Not only has he scored over 100 goals for the Bavarian outfit already, but he has also been instrumental in the winning of three league titles, five domestic trophies, a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup. His prowess has been replicated on the international stage, where he has been crowned the winner of the 2010 World Cup Golden Boot and Best Young Best Player, before bagging the Silver Ball in 2014 and a place in the All-Star Team as the Germans romped to victory. One would think that this impressive resumé would translate itself into a contract that might make him one of the best-paid players at his club, as they desperately attempt to cling onto him. The reality is that he earns just £5k more than bench-warmers Dante and Claudio Pizarro, and is dwarfed somewhat by the likes of Mario Gotze, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Arjen Robben to name but a few, who all earn upwards of £115,000. As long as he€™s happy.
