5. David Ginola
Neal Simpson/EMPICS SportDavid Ginola made a big name for himself in the 1990s, starting with a very successful spell at Paris Saint-Germain, where he won 4 trophies between 1993 and 1995 and was the linchpin of creativity in the side and had started to become the talk of football, and Celtic were in for him. Ginola excited every Hoops fan by appearing in Glasgow's East End to begin talks with Celtic, and it looked like a sure thing, and he was just the type of player the team needed during the darkest decade of football in the club's history (Rangers were on their way to 9-in-a-row). It was really quite sickening, then, that he ended up signing for Newcastle days afterwards. Its' believed that Ginola agreed on the terms with Celtic verbally, but decided to chance his arm for a better contract when Newcastle revealed their interest in him. The Geordie's beat Celtic's offer. A year after this transfer knock-back, Celtic ended up playing against Newcastle in a friendly, and every touch of the ball Ginola received was greeted with sheer abuse. It was clear how close Ginola was to signing, and also how much ability he had to command that sort of reaction from the fans he snubbed.
