Following Arsenal's 8-2 defeat to Manchester United in August 2011, Arsene Wenger made a flurry of transfer deadline day signings. Park Chu Young arrived alongside Andre Santos, Mikel Arteta and Per Mertesacker. The German and Arteta have proven to relatively successful signings for the club as they are now vice captain and captain, respectively. Park Chu Young has not enjoyed the same level of success following his move from AS Monaco as the striker only made one league appearance and failed to make many more in the cups. To put it bluntly, Park was something of a panic signing following that heavy defeat to Man United. He was another player that Wenger clearly didn't fancy, and for good reason, but why buy him? In his few appearances for the Gunners, Park failed to show even a moderate ability to be a professional footballer and it was suitable that he was loaned out, first to Celta Vigo and then to Watford, before departing the club last summer. He now plays for Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia.
