15 Worst Ever Arsenal Premier League Signings

8. Marouane Chamakh

Another player on this list who enjoyed a great start to their Arsenal career before seeing their form tail off dramatically. Chamakh started the 2010/11 season as the club's first choice striker as Robin Van Persie was out injured. He scored a number of goals, both in the Premier League and Europe, and grabbed the club's record for the fastest goal scored in the Premier League when he netted 37 seconds into the midweek victory over Wolves. This was to be the height of Chamakh's Gunners career as the return of Van Persie after Christmas led to a lack of game time, and when the striker did make it onto the pitch he looked completely shot of any confidence. He stayed at the club for another two seasons, although he was loaned to West Ham during this time, before moving to Crystal Palace where he has found his level. The forward has scored some goals for the London club but features mainly as a hard working player who is willing to defend from the front. Arsenal struggled to finish in the top four in the Premier League during Chamakh's time at the club, and were he the sole goal scoring threat for Wenger to call upon, it is fair to say they would have dropped out of the Champions League places. His goalscoring exploits for Bordeaux in Ligue 1 may serve as a warning to other clubs looking at forwards from that league.
