Number of caps: 4 It's amazing to think now that Scott Carson was once thought of as the future of English goalkeeping. A product of the Leeds United youth academy, he bagged a big move to Liverpool and impressed on loan at the likes of Charlton and Aston Villa, and it was while at Villa Park that he first broke into the England squad. He started off well, keeping a clean sheet in a friendly against Austria in 2007, but his second game was England's infamous Euro 2008 qualifying defeat against Croatia. Steve McClaren's side were outclassed and lost 3-2, Carson himself was at fault for the first goal, parrying Niko Krankjar's bouncing 30-yard effort into the net. It was Carson's one and only appearance in a competitive international, his next two appearances came as a subsitute in friendlies. He hasn't been picked for an England squad since 2008, and now firmly established as a Championship-level 'keeper, it doesn't seem like he'll be getting another call up any time soon. And we should all be thankful for that.
