15 Worst Ever English Football Kits

3. Manchester United: Away 1995-96

This club dominated England in the 1990s, but Umbro€™s attempt at a football shirt turned them briefly into a laughing stock and strangely also threatened their position as champions. The players infamously claimed they couldn€™t see each other against the background of the crowd. When they were losing at half-time away to Southampton, manager Alex Ferguson made them change into an all-white third kit, the first and only time a kit change at half-time has ever been recorded. This is a famous example of clubs and kit manufacturers putting profits before players. The all-grey kit, particularly the shirt, was designed specifically to be worn and look good with jeans. Obviously not with players in mind, during the long winter months it blended with the grey backdrop of the well wrapped-up fans and looked drab in comparison to other teams colourful shirts. The notoriety of the shirt on the pitch hurt sales off it as few fans wanted to be seen in it, whether wearing jeans or not. However this mishap did point out the merits of having a third kit, and now every club has one.
