15 Worst Ever Man Utd Premier League Signings

7. Gabriel Obertan

Many a Football Manager fan let out a squeal of delight when it was announced that Manchester United had signed uber-prospect Gabriel Obertan for around £3 million from Bordeaux in 2009. Pacey, skilful and, err€ a fan of step-overs. Yeah, that€™s pretty much it really. During some of his early days at Old Trafford, the French winger looked like he could develop into quite the decent player. Fast forward to the modern day and Obertan€™s now at Newcastle, with the Geordie fans still awaiting for that very same potential to blossom. Still only 26 years of age, Obertan is one of those footballers who leaves fans biting their lips as they try not to rip into one of their own players too much. On his day, he can leave several defenders in his dust and yet still completely spanner the most simplest of crosses/passes/shots (*delete as applicable) out of play. In fact, a successful Obertan cross is likely even rarer than a QPR away win these days. After flattering to deceive one too many times for Sir Alex Ferguson€™s liking, the infuriating Obertan was sent packing to St James€™ Park in 2011 for a fee again believed to be in the £3 million range.
