15 Worst Ever Sunderland Premier League Signings

7. Ignacio Scocco

The Argentine arrived with bags of promise, and YouTube clips that had Sunderland fans drooling. He was drilling 30 yarders in at will, blazing freekicks over walls and past goalkeepers, and flicking the ball through defenders' legs as though they weren't even there. Unfortunately, YouTube was the most anybody got to see from Scocco. He cost £3 million and played just 93 minutes of Premier League football across six games, without scoring a goal. Scocco was a bizarre signing, purely because he never really got a chance. At a time when Sunderland were lacking attacking options, Scocco was always overlooked, even if that meant re-jigging the team just so he wouldn't play. A Scocconspiracy... Sunderland got some money back for him after he was sold on, but for a player with so much promise, he was a massive disappointment. The search continues for an attacking player who can actually put the ball into the net.
