16 Newcastle Players You Won't Believe Are Seasoned Internationals
13. David Edgar - 29 Canada Caps
Newcastle United: 2001-09 Position: Defender Nationality: Canadian Premier League Appearances: 19 Premier League Goals: 2 International Caps (Goals): 29 (2) Famous on Tyneside for his 30-plus-yard equaliser on New Year's Day in 2007 against Manchester United, versatile defender David Edgar left the club for Burnley in 2009 when the Magpies were relegated. During his 23 appearances for Newcastle he had performed reasonably well but had hardly set the world alight, and another campaign in the Premier League with the Clarets did him no harm. After 114 games and four goals for Burnley, as well as a loan to Swansea City, Edgar moved to Birmingham City last summer and spent part of the season at Huddersfield Town. Despite playing the majority of his career at Championship level, Edgar has managed to accrue 29 caps for his native Canada - he moved across to Newcastle in his youth and progressed through the club's academy - and has netted twice. He even played in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup - and good luck to him. Let's hope the now 28-year-old continues to get international recognition.
