16 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Georginio Wijnaldum

9. Wijnaldum Represented Holland At The 2014 World Cup - And Scored Against Brazil In The Third-Place Play-Off

Newcastle are not only getting an Eredivisie veteran, they are also getting a seasoned international - because Wijnaldum has made 19 appearances for the Dutch national side since making his debut in 2011, scoring on three occasions. His first strike came against San Marino in an 11-0 victory in September 2011 - and that also happened to be his international debut, with Holland running out at Eindhoven's Philips Stadion. Wijnaldum then took almost three years to net his second international strike, but it was worth the wait. The midfielder came off the bench to score the final goal against Brazil in Holland's 3-0 victory over the hosts in the third-place play-off at the 2014 World Cup. Most recently, Wijnaldum scored the opener in Holland's 2-0 UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying victory over Latvia on June 12th.
