16 Things We Learned From Newcastle Vs. Sacramento Republic

3. Newcastle Struggle To Score Goals Under Steve McClaren

This is a fair assumption to make now we're three games into the Steve McClaren reign. Three games has wielded three goals and what seems like hundreds upon hundreds of missed opportunities. United, once again, created a bucket load of chances against Sacramento but failed to get one of their own on the scoresheet, instead relying on the home side to send the ball crashing into their own goal. Newcastle's build-up play is easy on the eye under the former England manager, even though it can be pretty tame at times. They work themselves into some great positions, but that final ball or shot on goal is lacking at the moment and looks like it could cost them this season. Although, we are still pretty early into pre-season so a spot of ring-rust can't be ruled out at this stage, while the arrivals of Aleksandar Mitrovic and maybe even Charlie Austin will help things along in the goal-scoring stakes.
