15. Steve McClaren Has Lost Faith In Yoan Gouffran Already
Newcastle made one change from the XI that lost to Club Atlas last Wednesday morning, with Gabriel Obertan coming in for Yoan Gouffran. And the much-maligned Gouffran, who didn't do ANYTHING in either of United's first two pre-season outings to suggest the new head coach had given him the proverbial new lease of life, didn't get on at all. Which of course suggests that McClaren has lost all faith in him already. If that is the case then good on the former England manager. He should be using this time to assess his options and decide who will do a job for him when the new season kicks off, and who deserves to be shown the St James' Park door. And there's little doubting in any of The Magpies fans' collective minds that the former Bordeaux man falls into the latter category. Then again, the new head coach could have just been giving his number 11 a "well earned" rest and saving him for another inevitably anonymous performance against the Portland Timbers on Wednesday morning.
