20 Best FIFA World Cup Goals Ever
4. Roberto Baggio - Italy Vs Czechoslovakia (1990)
The "Divine Ponytail" Roberto Baggio, the most talented Italian footballer of his generation, will always be remembered for one humiliating iconic World Cup moment: skying the decisive penalty over the bar in the 1994 final against Brazil. Football fans should equally recall, however, a moment from four years earlier as majestic as that one was tragic.
In front of a capacity crowd at Rome's Olympic Stadium, the host nation had already taken the lead against Czechoslovakia, courtesy of the tournament's surprise top scorer Toto Schillaci, when Baggio made his mark.
Making his first appearance of his home World Cup, Baggio exchanged passes with Giuseppe Giannini wide on the left. He cut inside from the flank, running between three Czech defenders before wrong-footing the last man by feinting left and then rounding him on the right to fire home.
Baggio had recently been subject to a world record transfer when departing his beloved Fiorentina for Juventus. In six seconds of individual brilliance, flair and pace he had shown the world that he was worth every penny.
