20 Best FIFA World Cup Goals Ever

3. Carlos Alberto - Brazil Vs Italy (1970)

The finest goal ever scored in the World Cup final itself, scored by what is quite possibly the finest World Cup team of them all, Carlos Alberto's goal in the 1970 final is a perfect showcase for what that team's star player dubbed "the beautiful game".

The tournament was all but over by the time that it happened. A solidly decent Italy were no match for a Brazil lineup built around the likes of Pelé, Jairzinho, Rivelino and Tostão. The Brazilians already led 3-1 with five minutes left on the clock when they gave their greatest demonstration of the team's prowess.

It may not involve quite as many passes in the build up as Esteban Cambiasso against Serbia & Montenegro, but this was also a goal whose brilliance lies in how it was a team effort rather than a solo moment of genius.

As an already tired Italy began to flag further in the final minutes, Brazil stepped it up a notch, knocking it around the centre of the park before releasing Jairzinho down the left wing. Jairzinho found Pelé on the edge of the box, but rather than try and make anything for himself, the football world's biggest star simply waited before playing a leisurely ball to his right, perfectly timed for a surging run from captain Carlos Alberto bursting from the back.

Italy were helpless as Carlos Alberto struck it instantly with his first touch and put Brazil 4-1 up and conclude one of the great World Cups with one of the great World Cup goals.
