20 Best FIFA World Cup Goals Ever

12. Esteban Cambiasso - Argentina Vs Serbia & Montenegro (2006)

There have been a number of great team goals in World Cup history, but none have so perfectly demonstrated an entire lineup working together like a well-oiled machine quite as much as the second in Argentina's 6-0 demolition of Serbia & Montenegro (two countries that had already split outside the football world, but too late to compete separately at the World Cup) in 2006.

Across a patient 25 pass build-up the ball was played between a veritable who's who of a gifted generation of Argentinian stars - Maxi Rodríguez, Juan Pablo Sorín, Juan Román Riquelme, Javier Mascherano, Javier Saviola, Hernán Crespo - each playing their part in a shining demonstration of possession-based football.

Suddenly, Saviola curled the ball to the edge of the box where Esteban Cambiasso, never the greatest attacking threat but a player who had already had multiple touches in that 25-pass move, laid it on for centre-forward Crespo. Rather than going for goal himself, Crespo drew the defender and then, with a cheeky back heel, teed up Cambiasso to burst in and score.

There were five separate goalscorers on that day, including a teenage Lionel Messi on his World Cup debut, but this one outshone them all.
