20 Hardest Football Hardmen Of All Time

5. Antonio Rattin

Most noted for being sent off in the infamous clash between Argentina and England in 1966 for his constant interference with the referee, Antonio Rattin is recognised as having started the long running rivalry between the two nations. After being sent off, Rattin sat on the red carpet that was meant for only the Queen to walk on, and had to be escorted off by two police officers. Once described as being "as violent with his tongue as he is with his boots," Rattin believed that the referee was favouring England, and as a final showing of disgust, wrinkled a British pennant on his way off. For more or less single-handedly starting the long running feud, the tough-tackling South American makes the list of hardmen.
